Whiting is a member of the Gadidae family. It is most commonly found in the coastal waters depths of up to 100m and inhabits mostly sandy or muddy sediment types. It is abundant in shallow, coastal waters and found all around the coast of southern Ireland. Whiting is a slender bodied fish with a narrow pointed head and snout. Its colour is variable but most commonly blue/green upper body and white/silver sides and belly.
