Kingfisher Fresh are certified under Origin Green. Origin Green is Ireland’s pioneering food and drink sustainability programme, operating on a national scale, uniting government, the private sector and the full supply chain from fishermen to food producers and right through to the foodservice and retail sectors.

RESPONSIBLE SOURCING

We source 100% of our seafood from Irish owned fishing vessels, these vessels are registered with government led Fishery Improvement Projects (FIP) that follow the framework of the international NGO, Fishery Progress. Kingfisher Fresh is also a member of the Irish Whitefish and Prawn FIP. Continuously working with our vessels with the support of Board lascaigh Mhara to identify and employ improved fishing methods, focusing more than ever on conservation and sustainability measures to secure the future of the fishing industry. 

We are Water Stewardship Certified and have recently installed a rain water harvest system on site.  We focus on energy-efficient processes through the HACCP system. We are SFPA approved, ensuring we deliver responsible fishing practices and seafood. In 2021, we heavily invested in technology to provide full traceability of our product from vessel to customer.

We are active in our local community, supporting projects that benefit our youth and the wider community. We have supported initiatives like the development of the community centre and playground and work closely with Wexford parish to channel much needed support to families in crisis. As a company, we provide access to continuous learning and self-development training programmes, promoting lifelong learning.

MINIMAL FOOD WASTE

Our lean business practices result in extremely minimal food waste. We have a commitment to low impact on the environment, which forms part of our overall waste reduction strategy.  We work with local service providers to ensure any waste is recycled and forms part of an alternate production cycle, for example, into products for non-human consumption.

KEEPING OUR INDUSTRY SAFE

Our fishermen use best practice health and safety processes on all their commercial fishing vessels, with their well trained crews.

We support our fishermen and families to understand and tackle the issue of staying safe at sea.

We might be small, but we get the job done the right way, using the right methods, because it’s the right thing to do.

Quality underpins everything we do.  We can proudly guarantee the freshness of every fish we catch and deliver to you. 

The fishers we work with head out to sea knowing where to fish and responsible practices. The nets are cast and hauled safely and correctly to ensure the fish are sustainably and responsibly caught by our fishers.

We have a close and trusted relationship with all of our fishermen, maintaining contact with them for each and every fishing trip.

Our fishermen head out to sea for 3-5 days. Their catch is guided by the Irish seas and the seasons. They know where to fish and focus on quality over quantity, great care is taken to ensure the fish are responsibly caught with low impact.

The fish landed by our vessels are 100% wild-harvested, Irish seafood caught directly from Irish coastal waters.

All we add is ice

Once on board the catch is quickly sorted and weighed before the ice is added to the fish. Maintaining both freshness and quality.

Hand over

When the vessels land they are met by a refrigerated vehicle which transports the catch along the coast to the Kingfisher Fresh facility in Co. Wexford.
